Rob Lyon’s story

Understandably, most of our beneficiaries prefer to remain anonymous. However, Rob Lyon, an actor and previously one of the Clown Doctors for the Royal Children's Hospital is happy for us to share his story.
When diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in his late 40s, and thereafter in rapid physical decline with this disease, the VABT was able to assist with the cost of expensive ongoing and essential medication and in some small way relieve the financial stress of the situation.
Significantly, when the option arose for surgery (Deep Brain Stimulation) and the possibilities of a much improved quality of life for Rob and his family, the VABT was able to assist with the out of pocket costs of the surgeon and anaesthetist’s fees.
The operation was successful and has had a very positive impact on Rob's health and the family generally. Just recently Rob lost his ability to drive and we were able to assist him with a motorised bike to give him his independence back, thanks to the kind donations we received from all the wonderful supporters and friends of the VABT.
